Our Excurison and Sleep Over

Wow!  What a fantastic day we had on Friday.  Our day started normal enough, except for the piles of pillows, mattresses and sleeping bags in the classroom!  We completed our VIP writing to Danielle and started on our Advent calendar.  Then, before we knew it, we where on our way to the MCG.  The weather was kind to us and it was not too hot AND did not rain.

After lunch and a play, with the equipment provided by the MCC, we met our tour guide George for a big walk and talk around ‘The G’.  We walked on the boundary of the oval, climbed the stairs to the highest seats in the house, yelled ‘Aussie, Aussie, Aussie’ out to the cricketers playing in the middle of the ground (they heard and waved back at us!), saw the cricket practice nets, sat in the comfy chairs in the long room and learnt a lot about the MCG, MCC and many famous sports people.  After that we visited the museum and played with the interactive games in the ‘Game On’ room.

We then went back to school and got our beds ready for the night.  After a yummy tea of pizza from Sinners in Macleod, we had some play time on bottom yard.  Mr T and Mr W challenged us to a game of cricket, with a slightly biased umpire in Ms E.  Mrs S managed to land 3 quoits and Mrs Van and Ms W managed the T-Ball competition.  We even got to have an icy pole for dessert.

Next it was time for bed and a movie.  ‘Bedtime Story’ was enjoyed by all (including several teachers!) before it was lights out and sleep time.

Very sleepy children (and  a few sleep deprived adults) were met by an army of parent helpers for breakfast in the Community Centre.  Thank you to ALL that came and help cook and clean up!

We then packed up our belongings and met our parents to go home for the weekend.  No wonder we feel exhausted.

Production 2012 ‘Nice Day For It’

On Thursday the 1st of November our whole school participated in the production called ‘Nice Day For It’. The production had an Australiana theme and incorporated new areas of the curriculum that we have being studying. This included sustainability, Asian perspectives and Aboriginal perspectives.

The Grade Fours were ‘Working Class Men/Women’ and danced to Jimmy Barnes’ song by the same title.  We then sang the Australian song ‘Home Among the Gum Trees’.

Term 3 Inquiry Plays ‘The Australian Story’

The assessment task for our Inquiry unit ‘The Australian Story’ was to create a play, outlining the perspectives of individuals on the First Fleet and during European Settlement.  The students worked in groups to write the script from different perspectives and present the play to the rest of the class.  Here are their stories:

Numeracy Day

Thanks to the wonderful Numeracy leader, Miss Chiodi, Grade 4EH had a lovely day on Friday completing many mathematical activities!

We had fun

  • building a scale model of The Endeavour – Captain Cook’s ship
  • playing many card games
  • adding the value of our names, the total for our class (1703), the total for boys (1019) and the total for girls (684)
  • using calculators to check our answers and
  • using Tangrams to make pictures.

4EH go a-viking!

On Friday the 24th of August our school held a day for the Champions of Reading – Drop Everything And Read day!  We came dressed as Champion Readers or dressed in our PJ’s ready to read a bedtime story or two.  Most of us looked like we just got out of bed, especially Tara who had a bad case of ‘bed hair’.  Ms Elliott came as a Super Hero reader of Artemis Fowl (her favourite novel!), cape and all.

We read a short-listed book called ‘The Last Viking’ by Norman Jorgensen and James Foley.  We really enjoyed the anti-bullying message the book contained, as well as the beautiful illustrations.  We then got to create our own viking ships to go-a-viking!!

Our Web Page Developer

In 4EH we have many children that really enjoy creating and publishing work online. At the moment one student, Nicholas, has been working on his own webpage (with a little help from his dad!).

The page is called ‘Cartoon Central’.  Follow the link on the title to check it out!

Our First Eucharist

On the weekend, the children of 4EH made their First Eucharist. It was an exciting time for us all. They all looked beautiful and were a credit to their families and our school.  They all had so many things to remember, but they did it with ease. Well done for the wonderful celebration of their Faith journey!
